How to Become a Substitute

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute employee with Pasco County Schools!

Application Process

  1. APPLY ONLINE to become an Instructional or Non-Instructional Substitute
  2. All required documents must be uploaded to your online application BEFORE your application may be processed.
At least two references
Transcripts and/or copy of high school diploma or GED
Copy of your certification and/or statement of eligibility (if applicable)

  1. All potential candidates must complete the Substitute Training Program.   If your application is approved, you will receive an invitation to sub training via email, which will also include information about sub training registration and how to schedule your fingerprinting appointment.  Please note, the Substitute Training Program is a one-day, unpaid training and is required prior to consideration of employment.
  2. Following successful completion of the Substitute Training Program, you will be approved to substitute for the district.
  3. College transcripts and/or proof of certification(s) must be provided in order to receive higher pay rates.

Salary Information

 
Regular Instructional Substitute:
  • High school diploma or GED - $65.00 per day
  • Bachelor's degree or higher - $70.00 per day
  • Retired teacher or valid teaching certificate - $75.00 per day
 
Long-Term Instructional Substitute (after the 10th day):
  • High school diploma or GED-$85.00 per day
  • Retired teacher or valid teaching certificate-$95.00 per day
 

Retired teachers must complete and submit the Retired Teacher Verification Form

Non-Instructional Substitute:
  • $8.05 per hour (effective 1/1/15)

Rates effective as of 3/2/2015 unless otherwise indicated

 

Instructional Substitutes

Instructional substitute positions include teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and Instructional Assistant ESE positions.  (All other Instructional Assistants are Non-Instructional subs)
 
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must possess a touch tone telephone and email address
  • Ability to work on short notice
  • Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of a substitute
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Successfully complete the District's Instructional Substitute Training Program
  • Effective August 4, 2014, all substitutes must work a minimun of four (4) days a month (to include at least one Friday) to remain active

Non-Instructional Substitutes

Positions may include:  Custodial, Food and Nutrition Assistants, Food and Nutrition Production Assistants, Instructional Assistants (exception: ESE IAs are paid as an Instructional substitute)

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a touch tone telephone and email address
  • Ability to work on short notice
  • Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of a substitute
  • Successfully complete the District's Non-Instructional Substitute Training Program
  • Effective August 4, 2014, all substitutes must work a minimun of four (4) days a month (to include at least one Friday) to remain active
