Steps to Certification

In order to gain employment in Pasco County as a teacher, you will need to have a certification statement of eligibility, issued from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).  Here are the steps you should follow to receive a statement of eligibility:

  1. Go to the Educator Certification section of the Florida Department of Education’s website at:
  2. Next, click on the link for Career Changer or College Graduate of Non-Education Program.
  3. Under the section titled, “What do you want to teach?” you will find a list of teaching certificate subject areas.  Click the link to view the various areas. Select an area that you want to teach and/or matches your degree.
  4. Next, click on the link at the bottom of the page that says, “Begin the Steps to Certification”.  This will walk you through the application process*.
  5. After receiving all application materials and reviewing your file, FLDOE will send you an official statement of eligibility.

After receiving your statement of eligibility, you will need to update your application for employment with the District School Board of Pasco County and then you can start applying for instructional positions. This information is also listed on the Employment Opportunities web page under Important Information for all applicants.

Once you are hired, you will be contacted by a Certification Specialist to go over your requirements. At that time, you will be given more detail regarding PDCP (Professional Development Certification Program) and other routes to satisfy the education courses that the DOE will require and that will based on your Statement-of-Eligibility.
