Bus Stop and Loading Safety
The District has over 10,000 designated bus stops across Pasco county. Here are a few tips to share to make sure that our students remain safe at their bus stop.
- The Five Minute Rule: Arrive at the bus stop at least 5 minutes before the designated pick-up time and be ready to board the bus. Arriving late or waiting in a car at the bus stop may cause you to rush to board the bus. Rushing to board the bus is not safe and places you at risk.
- Five Giant Steps: The area immediately around the bus is considered the “danger zone”. Students should keep back from the bus until it comes to a full stop and the driver directs the students to board. Students needing to cross the road to board the bus will be directed by the driver through the use of hand signals. Always check to see that the traffic has stopped before crossing the road.
Periodically, students will unintentionally leave items on the school bus. The Operators check their buses at the end of each activities and will collect any items left on the bus for student to pick-up the next day. The school bus communications radio is for official Transportation business and will not be used to contact the school bus Operator regarding items left on the bus. Items of value may be brought into the Bus Compound office. Students or Parents are welcome to pick-up these items in person at the appropriate compound. Bus compounds locations can be found here.
