Resources to Prepare for Testing
Throughout the school year, students take assessments that measure progress and understanding of key concepts. These tests help teachers in tailor instruction to meet individual needs. With your support, we can reduce stress and build positive habits that lead to success. Thank you for partnering with us to make testing a positive experience.
Tips to Prepare Your Child for Success
Here are a few simple ways to help your student feel prepared and ready to succeed:
- Prioritize attendance. Every moment of instruction counts. If your child is struggling with a concept, reach out to your child’s teacher for assistance.
- Create a calm study environment. A quiet, organized space helps your child focus and review effectively.
- Review materials together. Go over class notes or practice questions in short, focused sessions.
- Review the Florida Department of Education Fact sheets which provide an overview of the assessments. More information about the Fact sheets can be found by clicking HERE.
- Review the Test Design Summaries and Blueprints. The Blueprints show which standards will be assessed. More information about Blueprints can be found by clicking HERE.
- For state testing, your child can practice at home using sample items and released tests. Even a few minutes of review can boost familiarity and reduce stress. More information about the sample items and released tests can be found by clicking HERE.
- Remind your child to use testing strategies such as highlighting key words, eliminating incorrect answers by using the strike-out tool, summarize paragraphs, flag items that they wish to go back to, etc.
- Encourage healthy routines. Make sure your child gets enough sleep, eats a balanced breakfast, and stays hydrated.
- Practice positive thinking. Remind your child that tests are just one way to show what they know and that effort matters most.
- Encourage your child to give their best effort, not to rush or randomly answer questions.
- Make sure your child understands that electronic devices are strictly prohibited during testing and breaks. If a student is found with an electronic device, their test will be invalidated and not scored.
- Stay informed. Check school communications for testing dates and any special instructions. Be sure to review this information and reach out to your school with any questions.
