School Counseling

"When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts."
- Dalai Lama

Our Mission:

The School Counseling Program will provide a comprehensive developmental program that is data driven and will assist all students in their academic, career and personal/social development, providing all students with the skills needed to reach their highest potential and to achieve college, career, and life readiness.

What is the role of the School Counselor?

Pasco ensures all schools are implementing a School Counseling program designed to:

• Establish the School Counseling Program as an integral component of the academic mission of the school.
• Ensure every student has equitable access to the School Counseling Program.
• Identify and deliver the knowledge and skills all students need to be college, career, and life ready.
• Ensure that the School Counseling Program is comprehensive in design and is delivered systematically to all students.

Pasco County Schools has clearly been committed to implementing a School Counseling Program that is planned, comprehensive, and outcomes-based.  Our program is based on the most current knowledge base in research and seeks to balance the prevention and intervention needs of students.

We believe students and families benefit most when services are delivered in a format that emphasizes a continuity of care.  School Counselors provide supports by meeting the immediate needs of students, teachers, and parents, including providing services and supports such as counseling, consultation, advisement and other data outcomes, and connections to outside resources.

School Counselors help encourage students to plan, monitor, and manage their own learning and their personal/social and career development. To facilitate these student-centered and student-directed practices, School Counselors work in close collaboration with parents and teachers to support students in developing, analyzing, and evaluating their educational, occupational, and personal/social plans from Kindergarten through post-secondary experiences.
