In Pasco County Schools, we educate the whole child. Our students learn to think critically and solve complex problems while also becoming compassionate human beings. We ensure that all students have the skills they need to become responsible and contributing members of our community.
As part of this commitment, Pasco County Schools has dedicated time every month to providing professional development around Social Emotional Learning. During the district’s early release days, teachers and administrators come together to learn how to strengthen their own social emotional skills, how they can teach these skills to students, and how they can maximize their overall teaching practices to create compassionate environments for all students.
Social and emotional learning starts at home. Parents and families can be a powerful partner in their child’s development of social emotional competencies like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
This month's focus is on mindfulness. Mindfulness helps you to pay attention to what is happening in the moment and to pause before reacting. This is a great strategy to practice at home because your children aren't the only ones who benefit from it! This article, Eight Ways to Bring Mindfulness into Your Family, shares easy ways to incorporate mindfulness at home.
