Computation of Grade Point Average (GPA)
GPA = 4 (# of A grades)+
3 (# of B grades)+
2 (# of C grades)+
1 (# of D grades)+
0 (# of F grades)
Divide Total Number of Semester Grade
Honors courses will be weighted as follows:
A = 4.5
B = 3.5
C = 2.5
D = 1.5
F = 0
Advanced Placement courses will be weighted as follows:
A = 5
B = 4
C = 3
D = 2
F = 0
NOTE: All calculations should be rounded to the nearest tenth.
Tied Ranks: In the event of tied ranks for valedictorian and/or salutatorian, the principal shall award co-valedictorian and/or co-salutatorian positions.
Class Rank: At the end of the seventh semester, the class rank GPA will be calculated by:
Including semester grades earned in all courses taken for high school credit during the 2014-15 school year and beyond (including replacement grades).
A course designated in the Course Code Directory as grade 9 through 12 taken during middle school prior to the 2014-15 school year may be used to satisfy high school graduation requirements or Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program, but will not be included in the Class Rank GPA and will be flagged “L9” in myStudent. Grades for high school credit earned during the 2014-2015 school year and beyond will count toward a student’s Class Rank GPA. All grades earned for high school credit will count in the state unweighted GPA.
Class Rank GPA will be carried out five decimal places and rounded to fourth decimal place.
Grading System
Middle School
A = 90 - 100
B = 80 - 89
C = 70 - 79
D = 60- 69
F = 0 - 59
I = Incomplete
High School
A = 90 - 100 = 4 points
B = 80 - 89 = 3 points
C = 70 - 79 = 2 points
D = 60- 69 = 1 points
F = 0 - 59 = 0 points
I = Incomplete
High School Semester Assessments for Weighted Courses
Students taking a weighted course (Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Honors) will be given a semester assessment. The purpose of giving the assessments is to provide instruction and experience in preparing for and taking comprehensive, cumulative assessments, to prepare students for post-secondary college course work, and to serve as a validation of mastery of the course content.
The design of the semester assessments should provide an overview of the major course content and facilitate connections within and among key concepts and processes of the course work and is not limited to any one method. The semester assessments will be 15% of the semester grade. The computation of the semester assessment for weighted courses will be:
First quarter percentage grade times 42.5%, plus
Second quarter percentage grade times 42.5%, plus
Semester assessment grade times 15%
Secondary Honor Roll Student Selection
Identification of students for honor roll will be determined as follows:
GPA = Quality points divided by total number of grades
Three levels of honor roll will exist:
Straight “A” honor roll: Grade of “A” in all subjects.
High honor roll: 4.0 GPA and above (high school only)
Honor roll: 3.2 GPA (rounded to the nearest tenth) to 3.99 GPA
