The Communications and Government Relations Department vision is to develop and implement an effective communication system that will inform and engage internal and external communities.
The Communications and Government Relations staff offers story ideas to the media and responds to media requests. Staff members are available to help with:
Writing press releases
Press conferences, news briefings, and special events
Pitching story ideas to print and broadcast media
Crisis communications and government relations
Supporting school and district staff with media interviews
School to home communication
Please submit stories electronically using the Good News/Upcoming Events form, which can also be found on the Communications and Government Relations page through the district website. Complete the form, making sure you include the school’s physical address, and then click "submit." The department will issue all press releases for the district and schools.
Communications staff provides principals and site administrators with guidance during crisis situations. Staff will help write parent letters or SchoolConnects scripts alerting parents of situations that have occurred at a school, and provides advice about how widely to disseminate such messages and letters, as well as the appropriate timing for sending out SchoolConnects calls.
The department works with schools and other departments to design logos, letterhead, posters, brochures, event programs, annual reports, and PowerPoint presentations. The department also consults on digital file preparation and print ordering. The department monitors education-related legislation and the state budget process. The district communications and government relations liaison works with other government agencies and representatives on issues of mutual interest. Staff identifies legislative issues to pursue and bills to follow and communicates the district’s position on pending legislation with our legislative delegation. Staff also works with members of district offices on bills that are related to their areas of interest.
Photography and Videography
The department has two photographers who cover school and district events, and post their photographs to our district's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Flickr pages. The photographers also produce videos, which are uploaded to the district’s YouTube page, for schools and district offices.
The department assists potential volunteers with the application process, maintains the database for all volunteer applicants, and provides guidance to schools on using the district’s volunteer software. Background checks are reviewed through the FDLE Florida Sexual Offenders and Predators database and the Florida CCIS criminal database. Staff collects and submits outstanding volunteer nominations for various local and statewide awards. Volunteer programs also promote parent and community involvement, focusing on creating opportunities to increase engagement within our schools.
Web Site and Social Media
The Communications and Government Relations Department designs and maintains the district Web site, and assists schools and other departments with design and maintenance of their sites. The department also maintains the district’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. The district website coordinator designs standard themes, provides and maintains a CMS platform for school and staff websites, assists with the creation of site policy and procedures, and assists schools with web tools such as Twitter and Facebook.
