JOB GOAL

Responsible for supporting student academic strengths and deficits, providing high-dosage tutoring using explicit, systematic, and multisensory instructional strategies and instructional practices focused on student motivation and growth mindset to support academic goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement evidence-based reading and/or mathematics tutoring services aligned with District core curriculum and tiers of support.
  2. Communicate accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensible manner using language and style appropriate to the learner.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter that enables students to approach and to interrelate topics from a variety of perspectives, interests, and points of view.
  4. Utilize current, evidence-based resources, materials, and technologies of the subject field in a manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the learner.
  5. Assess student comprehension of subject matter and provide accurate feedback to students.
  6. Maintain a consistent tutoring schedule to maximize time and number of students served.
  7. Attend training sessions and implement academic tutoring program elements with fidelity.
  8. Utilize resources that meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  9. Collaborate with site leaders, teachers, and program coordinators on a regular basis to share students' progress and response to tutoring support to ensure alignment of the tutoring services to core instruction.
  10. Provide detailed documentation of tutoring services and student progress.
  11. Communicate student progress routine to parents/guardians in accordance with tutoring program requirement.
  12. Utilize a variety of multisensory techniques to meet the needs of all learners.
  13. Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to teach key concepts in appropriate content or grade level
  • Possess strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases 
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • Attend required Tutor Training Provided by the District upon hire
  • OR
  • For High School student applicants: 
    • Rising junior or senior in Pasco County High School, or surrounding county
    • Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
    • Level 3 or higher on 10th grade Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) or equivalent proficiency assessment scores, if no FSA
    • No out-of-school suspensions or expulsions
    • On-track for High School graduation
    • Attend required Tutor Training Provided by the District upon hire

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Early Childhood Development, Education, or related field for High School graduates and above
  • Experience working with young children in educational setting
  • Valid and current certification of Infant/Child American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

Proper use and handling of crutches, wheelchairs, standers, and general office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
