Superintendent’s Biography

Heather Fiorentino began her career with the District School Board of Pasco County in 1984. She taught several grade levels and subject areas, including drop-out prevention. She was named Pasco County District Teacher of the Year in 1994. In 1993, Fiorentino was elected to the New Port Richey City Council, where she served for five years. In 1998, Fiorentino was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, representing District 46. Fiorentino also worked in the Staff Development and Communications Departments of the Pasco County School District.
During her tenure with the Florida House of Representatives, Fiorentino was a true champion for public education. Twice hailed as the Legislator of the Year by the Florida School Board’s Association (1999, 2001), Fiorentino consistently fought for the interests of all students. She also earned designation as Legislator of the Year by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents in 2001. Fiorentino served as Chairman of the General Education K-12 Committee and was a chief architect of the School Code Re-Write Bill. She also chaired the Future of Florida’s Families Committee and was Vice- Chairman of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee. Additionally, she served on the Education Appropriations Committee and oversaw record increases in education spending by the Florida Legislature.

Upon leaving the Legislature in 2004, Heather Fiorentino was elected Superintendent of Schools in Pasco County. Under her leadership, the District has opened 15 new schools in her first term, earned District-wide Accreditation under SACS-CASI and has experienced high levels of academic achievement, including a dramatic decrease in the District’s drop-out rate.
Superintendent Fiorentino has received Level I and Level II certification from the Florida Association of School Superintendent’s Chief Executive Officer Leadership Development Program and has completed the Center for Creative Leadership’s Educational Leadership Development Program. As she enters her second term as Superintendent, she continues to lead the District with a strong vision of creating a community that works together so all students in Pasco County reach their highest potential.
