The event is a collaboration between Starkey Ranch K-8 and the Music Director for The Florida Orchestra.
The new Starkey Ranch K-8 School is teaming up with Michael Francis, music director of The Florida Orchestra, to host the first ever Starkey Symphony Spectacular. The free outdoor concert will feature performances by Starkey K-8 musicians, community members, and members of The Florida Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Francis.
“This is a unique collaboration between aspiring student musicians, talented community members, and highly accomplished professional musicians,” said Mariah Walukonis, Starkey Ranch K-8 Orchestra Director, who has worked closely with Francis to organize the event. “This was Maestro Francis’ idea, and we are thrilled that we have been able to work together to make this happen.”
The free event will be held outdoors on the physical education fields at Starkey Ranch K-8. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. There will be several food trucks at the event. Although the event is free, it will serve as a fundraiser for Starkey Ranch K-8 music programs, with the school receiving a portion of the proceeds from the food trucks and for opportunities for businesses and individuals to make contributions.
Michael Francis was appointed Music Director of The Florida Orchestra in the fall of 2014. Over the course of his international career, he has collaborated with a wide range of renowned soloists including Lang Lang, Itzhak Perlman, Annie Sophie-Mutter, Rufus Wainwright, and Sting.
