JOB GOAL

Responsible for accurately processing and posting payroll transactions and providing payroll support within the District in a timely manner and providing customer service to district and school employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Review to ensure accuracy and process payroll for assigned work sites.
  2. Investigate, trace, prepare documents, calculate, and process additional payments, including but not limited to, retroactive pay, overpayments, underpayments, and discrepancies as directed.
  3. Process payroll adjustments for transfers, late starts, leaves, terminations, and resignations.
  4. Research and provide resolution to inquiries from all levels of personnel regarding payroll.
  5. Provide payroll support to site-based timekeepers.
  6. Maintain confidential records and information regarding payroll and District financial documents and use information only for the purpose intended.
  7. Assimilate, prepare, interpret, review and process payroll documents, including but not limited to leave requests, deduction requests, W-2, W-4 records, and earnings records.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of current accounting and pay related time keeping systems.
  9. Perform clerical and record keeping tasks, including but not limited to, filing, copying, scanning, and answering phones.
  10. Adhere to time sensitive deadlines while demonstrating the ability to multi-task.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of financial procedures, policies, and regulations
  • Exhibit effective financial and mathematical computation skills
  • Ability to work independently and organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and to completion under strict deadlines and established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • One or more years of demonstrated experience in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Auditing, or related financial activity position
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Two or more years of previous experience in a similar position in government accounting
  • Advanced skill level of Microsoft Office and Excel, to include but not limited to, pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, and formulas

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
