JOB GOAL

Responsible for supporting the planning, coordinating, and implementing of district network systems and associated applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Assist with the evaluation, design, implementation and support of new and existing network equipment, server systems, and software platforms.
  2. Assist with monitoring network performance, troubleshooting network problems, and scheduling updates to systems and related technology.
  3. Assist with network requirement analysis to help identify strengths and weaknesses within the system, and various operating platforms to ensure functionality, integration, and efficient operations.
  4. Assist in developing comprehensive plans for program review including development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of new and existing network equipment and services.
  5. Assist in the audit of network equipment to ensure efficient operations and compliance with district, state, and federal laws, rules and guidelines.
  6. Assist in designing, monitoring, and implementing network specifications for educational facilities, technology systems, and other related technology equipment and materials.
  7. Assist and/or complete required reports for appropriate local, state and federal educational agencies.
  8. Research and evaluate emerging technology trends to ensure district equipment and department operations are relevant to modern standards and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  9. Assist in providing guidance and input for on-site network transport and installation based on industry standards and design specifications.
  10. Provide technical assistance and training to end users on topics associated with network services, security, and other related technology issues.
  11. Coordinate with various telecommunications contractors and/or telephone company providers to ensure efficient operations and limit network down time.
  12. Attend professional development workshops related to network services to better understand emerging technology and information services trends and changing regulatory requirements.
  13. Supervise and allocate work to assigned staff.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current products, services, and applications available for LAN/WAN and data communications systems
  • Knowledge of client-server network applications
  • Knowledge of computing systems, electronics, and software development
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years’ experience in network related services
  • Advanced training in network technology systems and related equipment
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Appropriate valid Florida driver license
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver II Plan. Driver license must be maintained as a condition of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of current Premise Distribution Specifications for Education Facilities (PDSEF)
  • Associates degree in communications engineering, computer science, or related field
  • Knowledge of multiple network protocols
  • Knowledge of switched and routed networking
  • Ability to create network schematics
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • Network+ Certification

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work: addressing complaints and resolving problems; assisting with training employees; assisting with evaluating performance; and assisting with interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
