JOB GOAL

Responsible for planning organizing, coordinating, and monitoring delivery of health and safety programs and services while ensuring compliance with all district, state, and federal rules, regulations, and statutes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Assist the Crisis Intervention Team and respond to crisis events as needed.
  2. Coordinate and ensure regulatory compliance of AED program including employee training.
  3. Collaborate with Florida Department of Health of Pasco County, Emergency Support Function # 8 (ESF-8) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate response in the event of a public health emergency.
  4. Review and enhance district health emergency response to include National Incident Management System (NIMS), pandemic planning, crisis response, shelter operations, health emergency response, and evacuation procedures.
  5. Provide guidance concerning workplace hazards that may impact employee health (including ILD).
  6. Monitor regulatory compliance for Bloodborne Pathogens training and act as consultant for employee exposure events.
  7. Coordinate regular CPR/FA training for facilities and maintenance, transportation, athletics, and district office employees (and other sites as needed).
  8. Collaborate with local health authorities when there is an outbreak or potential outbreak of a communicable disease or other identified public health concern that may impact employee health.
  9. Serve as a resource to school nurses and administrative staff regarding employee health concerns.
  10. Confer with Risk Management to assist with POET drug screening, transportation physicals, return to work restrictions, and other employee health concerns.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current trends and research related to workplace injury and illness prevention.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media.
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to analyze data and use data-driven decision making to implement effective programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders and facilitate groups to consensus.
  • Ability to travel to a variety of locations and work a fluctuating schedule to meet program requirements.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Three years of emergency management experience
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Valid registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance
  • Satisfactory completion of American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course or agreement to earn within one year of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in the field of Nursing from an accredited institution
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor experience
  • Valid Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse – Specialist (COHN-S) certification
  • Previous nurse experience in school setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors: The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.
