JOB GOAL

Responsible for performing duties in one or more areas of financial operations, including general accounting, accounting related to grants or property control, budget, capital, accounting, internal accounts, accounts payable and/or payroll; providing general support services for the department and the District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Provide guidance to support staff and assist employees by problem-solving finance related issues and ensuring established policies and procedures are followed consistently throughout the District.
  2. Create, run, analyze, and review weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual reports in a timely and accurate manner and maintain appropriate records.
  3. Compile and verify accuracy of various data, including but not limited to payroll, general ledgers, accounts payable, property records and special project reports.
  4. Provide training to Finance department and District staff on procedures and related software.
  5. Prepare and maintain accounting schedules and account reconciliations for various projects and accounts as directed, utilizing advanced spreadsheet applications.
  6. Monitor project expenditures for accuracy and compliance.
  7. Perform additional duties specific to area(s) of assignment:
    • Complete wage garnishments, overpayments, USEP updates, FC-1's, leave payouts and subpoenas.
    • Account for fixed asset expenses which include balancing expenses with assets, ensuring assets are properly set up to account for depreciation, and creating journal entries to correct improperly coded assets. 
    • Coordinate accounting of property records and the inventory-taking process.
    • Coordinate and facilitate District and school bookkeeping functions.
    • Analyze and reconcile general ledger and bank accounts.
    • Support the local, state, and federal grant process.
  8. Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  9. Balance various job responsibilities and duties with attention to detail.
  10. Provide backup within the department as needed.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of financial procedures, policies, and regulations
  • Advanced skill level of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to, pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, and formulas
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding records, information, and District financial documents
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Ability to work independently and organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and to completion under strict deadlines and established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets and databases
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited institution
  • One year experience in Accounting, Auditing, or related financial activities position
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years’ experience in Accounting, Auditing, or related financial activities position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
