Prekindergarten Applications

The Head Start Program serves 3 and 4 year olds. Early Head Start serves expectant mothers, infants, and toddlers. The District School Board of Pasco County offers FREE Head Start/Early Head Start Programs to all approved applicants. Preference for Head Start is given to children who turn 4 years old on or before September 1 of the program year. Children who are turning 3 years old on or before September 1 of the program year may also apply.

Eligibility is based on family need and income. Children with documented disabilities or special needs are given additional points and are encouraged to apply.

Applications are accepted throughout the year during scheduled ‘application days.’ Click here to download the most recent application day schedule.(español).

Minimum documents needed to complete and application:

  1. Child’s CERTIFIED Birth Certificate or other State approved proof of birth.
  2. Documentation of 4-6 WEEKS of the most current household income; pay stubs (dated after January 1, 2012), 2011 W-2’s, 1040 tax form, SSD/SSI, employer letter, accountant’s statement, unemployment or other acceptable proof.
  3. Proof of residency in Pasco County (FL ID, driver’s license, utility bill, lease agreement, etc.)

Additional documents if applicable:

  1. Child’s social security card or number.
  2. Information for other family members in the home (social security numbers and dates of birth).
  3. Child’s health insurance card (Medicaid, Kid Care or Private Insurance); Proof of WIC
  4. Proof of child support for all children in the home.
  5. Documentation of Cash assistance (TCA/TANF) or WAGES verification (Career Central), or Subsidized child care, Protective services and/or Foster care verification.
  6. Documentation of a disability in the home for child (IEP or IFSP), parent and/or legal guardian.
  7. Documentation of a health or nutritional concern for applying child (ren) (diagnosed or suspected)
  8. Documentation of pregnancy if applicant is an expectant mother.
  9. Proof of guardianship or custody if child is with a non-parent.

Programs have limited enrollment and are not based on a first come first served basis. Completing an application does not guarantee a child’s eligibility for services.
All applicants are placed on the selection list.
