Welcome to Instructional Media and Technology!

The mission of the Instructional Media and Technology program is to promote literacy and to actively support the teaching and learning process. As the amount of information increases exponentially, it is imperative that students have the skills necessary to effectively access, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate information in a manner that is compelling and meaningful. Students must have numerous opportunities and experiences with a variety of technologies and resources to acquire the skills that are necessary for success in the digital world of the 21st century. Media and Technology Specialists collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure that all students have those opportunities. Media/Technology programs also ensure that students have access to literature from all cultures in a variety of formats and provide reading promotions and special activities to encourage a love of reading in all of our students.

Summer Literacy Adventure

Florida First Lady Ann Scott, along with the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of State, kicked off the Summer Literacy Adventure as a way to encourage students to pledge to read and visit their local public libraries this summer.

Florida students have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Literacy Adventure by visiting the Just Read, Florida! website at www.justreadflorida.com  to take the pledge. A select school with the most participating students in the Summer Literacy Adventure will be recognized during the 2011-12 school year.

The Department of State also encourages students to read, and local public libraries throughout the state host a variety of programs during the summer to promote reading. Students and their families can learn more about summer reading programs by contacting their local public library, and information on the locations of public libraries in Florida can be found at www.fllibraries.org

Access the Summer Reading List or other reading resources through the Just Read, Florida! website at www.justreadflorida.com  . We hope you will encourage your students to take the pledge today!
