Instructional Media and Technology
Instructional Media and Technology Services supports school-based Media Technology programs through consultation, training and the provision of resources to ensure that all Pasco students gain the information and technology skills needed for success in a digital world. Support for school-based literacy efforts is provided through sharing of best practices for reading motivation, promotional activities, and collection development, as well as the maintenance of the on-line catalog and automated circulation system. The department also sponsors annual student storytelling and speech contests. The “Communicating the Vision” video production project gives schools the opportunity to showcase their students and school activities through teacher and student produced digital video projects shown on the Pasco Educational Television station, PETV.
Information resources are available in all formats including print, video and digital. Subscription based on-line information resources are available to faculty and students both at school and home. Digital video is available to teachers through a subscription to Discovery Education Streaming and staff development is enhanced through a subscription to Atomic Learning, which provides video tutorials for the most widely used software applications and is available to faculty, students and their families.
LEARN
LEARN is Pasco County’s online courseware system, where everyone can “Learn Easily And Right Now”. Learn is built on Moodle, a web-based, open source software that allows teachers to create new learning environments. The tools and activities students use in these Internet classrooms are very similar to those they already use in their personal lives. With Moodle, students learn by doing and sharing. Its tools allow children to work together to construct their own knowledge, making learning a much more personal and relevant experience.
LEARN includes a wide variety of activities, such as forums, glossaries, wikis, assignments, quizzes, polls/surveys, etc., as well file sharing and posting of podcasts, video clips or other content. While LEARN is accessible via the Internet, it is a controlled environment that is user name/password protected, and therefore safe environment for students and staff. This allows teachers to teach in a blended environment where students have 24/7 access to the online components of the class.
Since it is web-based, students have opportunities to work cooperatively and collaborate with other students in their school, elsewhere in the district, across the country, or around the world.
The MIND
Looking for a good book to read, a video resource to incorporate into classroom instruction or a professional publication for research? The Media Information Network for the District is where you will find access to print and non-print resources. The MIND connects teachers, students and their families to the schools’ media library collections, resources and several electronic database subscriptions paid for by the District School Board of Pasco County.
Communicating the Vision (CTV)
The project promotes a positive image of the students, teachers, staff and schools of the District School Board of Pasco County to the public through Pasco Educational Television. Classroom teachers and students who participate in CTV become proficient with video production techniques and contribute to school video programs. Learn more…
