Welcome to Instructional Media and Technology!
The mission of the Instructional Media and Technology program is to promote literacy and to actively support the teaching and learning process. As the amount of information increases exponentially, it is imperative that students have the skills necessary to effectively access, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate information in a manner that is compelling and meaningful. Students must have numerous opportunities and experiences with a variety of technologies and resources to acquire the skills that are necessary for success in the digital world of the 21st century. Media and Technology Specialists collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure that all students have those opportunities. Media/Technology programs also ensure that students have access to literature from all cultures in a variety of formats and provide reading promotions and special activities to encourage a love of reading in all of our students.

Who Really Wins in a Fight?
The Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME) Jim Harbin Student Media Festival is in honor of Jim Harbin, a former consultant with the Florida Department of Education who originated the idea of an annual competition and awards celebration to recognize the excellent work being done across the state by student media producers. This year’s Jim Harbin Awards were presented to winners in four grade levels (grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12) across eight competitive categories: animation, comedy, documentary, drama, instructional video, music video, and news and public service announcements.
Hundreds of students from all over the state of Florida submitted video productions for this year’s district competitions. The first-place winners of the regional competitions will be advancing to state and then international competitions. The state awards will be presented at the Florida Association of Media in Education’s 39th Annual Conference in October, 2011.
Rhoda Cribbs, media specialist at Trinity Elementary School, served as the Pasco County Jim Harbin Contact for the 2010-2011 school year. Miss Cribbs is also the Region 4 chairperson for the FAME Jim Harbin Committee and is responsible for Regional judging. All of the submissions for this year's Regional judging can be found at the following website under the Region 4 submission drop down menu.
