Media Automation
MIssion
Our mission is to use computer technology to automate, to the greatest extent possible, the activities normally carried out in maintaining and managing a school library's resources.
The objective of our work group is support all members of the School Media Team in their use of library automation and information technology.
Services
Cataloging and Database Maintenance
The primary product of Media Automation is the MIND database, accessed via the PAC in the schools. This database, renowned for its depth and quality throughout the state, represents all cataloged educational resources in our school district.
New Acquisitions
Media Automation has streamlined a process that makes adding your new resources to the MIND quick and easy. In many cases, the only work required at the school is unpacking the books from the boxes!
A major component of this process is a thorough screening of vendor-supplied cataloging. Records are checked for accuracy according to MARC rules and must included a minimum of information as detailed in our MARC specification instructions.
Training and Consulting
All new Media Staff members receive extensive hands-on, personal training. In addition, we provide and facilitate workshops throughout the school year on topics related to library automation, and we'll be more than happy to visit your school and consult with you on matters like collection management, online catalog instruction, etc.
Inventory
Under state law, every school must inventory its collection once a year. Thanks to automation, we've designed a process that makes this procedure as painless as possible.
Interlibrary Loan
We believe in resource-sharing. Not only do we make possible schools borrowing from other schools, we also enable our users to borrow materials from any library in the world.
Technical Support
Our HelpDesk is available from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, ready to take your calls for everything related to the MIND system. Your contact is Joe O'Sullivan, Systems Analyst, Library Media Automation. He can be reached at extension 42344.
