Vero Beach’s Jayda Jenkins Named Miss Weightlifting; Sunlake’s Denise Garcia Earns Top Coaching Honor

GAINESVILLE (April 22) – Vero Beach High School senior Jayda Jenkins has been selected the 2019 Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Weightlifting.

Jenkins, the state champion in the Class 2A 119-pound division, set a state-record in the clean-and-jerk with a 190-pound lift and added a 160-pound lift in the bench press for a 350-pound total on her way to the title.

Sunlake’s Denise Garcia earned Coach-of-the-Year honors after leading her squad to its first Class 2A state title in her 11th year as the school’s head coach. Sunlake’s title-winning performance included six place winners among the team’s eight state qualifiers, beating out Vero Beach (22-19) for the championship.

The Florida Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program exemplifies Florida Dairy Farmers' commitment to the state's youth. This is the 27th year of these unique awards as we honor the state's top athletes and coaches in all 30 FHSAA sanctioned and recognized sports. The program also emphasizes to young people the importance of keeping dairy products a primary part of their diet in their overall nutrition plan.
