Schools Throughout Pasco County Honor Troops on Veterans Day

Land O’ Lakes, FL — (November 3, 2017) — Students and schools throughout Pasco County will participate in Veterans Day ceremonies at their schools and in the community. Following is a list of events:


Where: Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave. in New Port Richey

When: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8

Why: The Gulf High School JROTC Color Guard will present recognition certificates to veterans during a Rotary Club of New Port Richey-sponsored event. For more information, call (727) 774-3300.


Where: Meadowlawn Cemetery, 4244 Madison St. in New Port Richey

When: 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9

Why: The Gulf High School JROTC will place 1,200 flags on veterans’ graves. For more information, call (727) 774-3300.


Where: Bexley Elementary School, 4380 Ballantrae Blvd. in Land O’ Lakes

When: 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9

Why: Bexley Elementary School invites its community to watch second-graders perform during the school’s Veterans Day concert. For more information, call (813) 346-4300.


Where: James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. in Tampa

When: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: The Thomas E. Weightman Middle School band will march during the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital parade. The school also will participate in Jeans for Troops. Participants who donate $5 to this national campaign can wear jeans to work, and the proceeds help veterans with employment, healthcare and housing. For more information, call (813) 794-0200.


Where: Schrader Elementary School, 11041 Little Road in New Port Richey

When: 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: Schrader Elementary School families are invited to watch fifth-graders as they sing and speak about the service of our veterans. To reserve a spot at this event and learn more about it, call (727) 774-5900.


Where: Zephyrhills High School, 6335 12th St. in Zephyrhills

When: 7 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: Zephyrhills High School’s JROTC and chorus will salute and honor staff veterans before school. For more information, call (813) 794-6100.



Where: Crews Lake Middle School atrium, 15144 Shady Hills Road in Spring Hill

When: 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: The Crews Lake Middle School social studies department will explain the historical significance of the holiday, and the school band will provide music. The American Legion will present the colors and fold the U.S. flag as a school staff member explains what each fold represents. Veterans on school staff also will be recognized. Where: Lacoochee Elementary School cafeteria, 38815 Cummer Road in Dade City

When: 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: Veterans will visit classrooms and talk about the holiday and their service. Students will talk about family members who have served and hang photos of them on a brand-new Wall of Heroes. For more information, call (352) 524-5600.


Where: Veterans Elementary School, 26940 Progress Parkway in Wesley Chapel

When: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Where: West Zephyrhills Elementary School basketball courts, 37900 14th Ave. in Zephyrhills

When: 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: The West Zephyrhills community is invited to enjoy live music at this special Veterans Day event. Students and staff will wear red, white and blue, and community members are encouraged to bring their own chairs. For more information, call (813) 794-6300.


Where:           Denham Oaks Elementary School, 1422 Oak Grove Blvd. in Lutz

When:            10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why:              Denham Oaks Elementary School will recognize more than 75 veterans from all five branches of the military during this event. Fourth- and fifth-graders will perform songs learned in music class; student council members will speak; the PTA will provide breakfast; student art will be displayed; and a local Boy Scouts troop will present the flag. Where: Odessa Elementary School cafeteria, 12810 Interlaken Road in New Port Richey

When: 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: All veterans, their families, and anyone related to Odessa Elementary School students and staff, or invited by them, are welcome to attend this Veterans Day celebration. The Odessa Elementary School and Seven Springs Middle School choruses will sing, and the J.W. Mitchell High School Color Guard will perform. There also will be lunch, a parade, live music and more. Where: Chester W. Taylor Elementary School, 3638 Morris Bridge Road in Zephyrhills

When: 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10

Why: Chester W. Taylor Elementary School’s chorus, and the Zephyrhills High School JROTC, jazz band, and chorus will perform during this Veterans Day celebration. There also will be a guest speech from Pasco Schools Superintendent Kurt Browning. For more information, call (813) 794-6900.

Why: Quail Hollow Elementary School will host its Fall Festival Veterans Day Celebration.
