Quail Hollow Elementary Students Building Lego Robots
Who: Quail Hollow Elementary School students
What: First Lego League
When: 4:10 p.m., Thursday, November 15
Where: Quail Hollow Elementary School collaboration room, 7050 Quail Hollow Blvd., Wesley Chapel
Why: To develop students’ critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and presentation skills, which they must use to present to judges their solutions with a dash of creativity.
How: First Lego League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology. They then compete on a table-top playing field. It all adds up to tons of fun while students learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem.
