Why: The competition gives students the chance to conduct independent research using scientific methods to complete projects, have the projects displayed and judged for scientific merit, and compete for prizes and awards.
How: Students choose a topic to experiment and form a hypothesis. Next, the students conduct research, collect and analyze data, and explain their findings in a written report. The report is considered, along with a display board that illustrates the elements of the project using graphs, charts, diagrams, or photos, and the students present their research and findings to the judges. Students in the regional fair have won their school science and engineering fair competition. Students are eligible for a variety of prizes if they place in the regional science and engineering fair, and top winners move on to the state competition.
