Pasco County Schools Earns Silver for Healthy Employees
Land O’ Lakes, FL – (November 1, 2016) – The District School Board of Pasco County has been awarded the Florida Healthy School District Silver Award by the Florida Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) and the Florida Coordinated School Health Partnership (CSHP). The district was presented with a silver level flag during today’s school board meeting.
The district earned the Silver award for demonstrating high scores in all areas with the highest scores related to policies and processes in the following areas:
District Infrastructure (88%)
Physical Education (87%)
Health Services (90%)
Counseling Psychological and Social Services (86%)
Healthy School Environment (87%)
Employee Wellness (85%)
Family and Community Involvement (91%)
The Coordinated School Health Partnership is a grassroots partnership whose members represent not-for-profits such as the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Florida Y, Florida Action for Healthy Kids, and The Alliance for a Healthier Generation; professional health care associations; P.E. teachers; insurers; Florida PTA and other advocates. The primary purpose of the CSHP is to advocate for school health issues and recognize excellence among Florida school districts.
Florida Action for Healthy Kids is the Florida team for the national Action for Healthy Kids organization, which was created in 2002 in response to U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher’s public call to action to fight the national epidemic of childhood obesity and poor health. FLAFHK provides training, technical assistance, grants and other resources to schools, while recognizing health leaders among districts, schools and staff.
