Mittye P. Locke Elementary Opens Clothes Closet to Families
After this was sent yesterday, the school advised us that the end time had changed.
Who: Mittye P. Locke Elementary School staff, students, and families; and students from Gulf Middle and High Schools
What: Locke Closet and Resource Center
When: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 4
Where: Locke Elementary School cafeteria, 4339 Evans Avenue, New Port Richey
Why: To provide no-cost clothing to families in need.
How: School staff has collected 3,000 new clothing items through a partnership with New Threads of Hope in Wisconsin (https://www.newthreads.org). Clothing is available in all sizes for men, women, boys, and girls. Families received invitations and were asked to RSVP if they plan to shop for clothing for their family. When they arrive, they will be asked to sign in and will be allowed to shop for a specified number of items based on the number of family members registered. School staff, along with Gulf High and Middle schoolers, are volunteering their time on Saturday to work the Locke Closet. Clothing has been sorted, and on Friday, the volunteers are staying after work to organize the items by gender and size. They’ll be back at 8 a.m. Saturday to put on the final touches. In addition to clothing, families can get information about community resources for counseling, youth services, jobs, food, shelter, etc.
