Find Hope in Darkness

Who: Pasco County students, staff, families, and community

What: Pasco County's 3rd Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk

When: 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 28

Where: Sims Park, Grand Boulevard and Bank Street, in New Port Richey

Why: In 2012, Pasco County ranked 4th in Florida for the highest number of suicides. This walk raises awareness about depression and suicide, and provides comfort, support, and assistance to those who have lost someone to suicide.

How: Last year, more than 700 walkers raised more than $30,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The AFSP contributes research and resources to educate and save lives through suicide prevention programs. This year’s goal is for 1,000 registered walkers to raise $35,000. Join a team or donate by clicking this link: All ages are welcome and registration is free. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m., the opening ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m., and the walk will last from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk will be followed by a closing ceremony.
