Airman to Surprise Sister at Promotion Ceremony

Land O’ Lakes, FL – (May 23, 2018) – Weightman Middle School 8th grader Mayah Jaramillo likely will never forget her 8th grade promotion ceremony, scheduled for Friday, May 25, at 9 a.m. Her brother, Air Force Airman E-2 Joel Jaramillo, is taking the redeye from Nevada to surprise her (and their dad) by joining her on stage when her name is called.

Mayah hasn’t seen Joel, who is a 2015 Wiregrass Ranch High School graduate, all school year.  The last time she did was when he completed basic training last August (see photo).  For the previous three years, he drove Mayah to school on the first day, but this year, she had to ride with her mom (See photo).

Joel’s flight is scheduled to arrive in Tampa around 7 a.m., and a friend is picking him up and bringing him to the school.  A school administrator will accompany him to the Wesley Chapel Center for Performing Arts (next door), where he will sneak in through the back door and surprise Mayah.

Mayah’s mom and Assistant Principal Andressa Williams have been secretly planning the surprise.

The Wesley Chapel Center for Performing Arts is located at 30651 Wells Road in Wesley Chapel.  Media should park in the lot in front of the Wesley Chapel High School administrative offices, which is on the west side of the performing arts center.
